About the New SSR International Airport

The New SSR International Airport was inaugurated in 13 September 2013 and is the main and only International Airport in Mauritius. The airport was previously known as the 'Plaisance Airport' to be after renamed Sir Seewoosagur Internation airport in memory of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam who was a leader in the Mauritian independence movement.

It is located 26 nautical miles (48 km) southeast of the capital city of Port Louis, 69 kilometers from Grand Bay, 50 kilometers from Flic en Flac.

The new terminal can handle up to 4.5 million passengers annually. It has a total, 52 check-in counters in the departure lounge, 36 posts of immigration on arrival and 12 health check points. The accompanying public has dedicated area, which allows them to stay in contact with passengers on departure and arrival.

The New Terminal Building consists of three levels:-
Domestic arrivals and departures are processed through a dedicated terminal at Ground Level. The Air Mauritius lounge is situated at the International Departure Level 1. International arrivals are processed at level 2 (Immigration and Health) and baggage carousels are located at Ground Level. International departures are processed at Level 1.

Ticketing counters are available at both the Domestic and International Terminals. These outlets undertake sale of tickets and ancillary services such as lounge access, upgrades and exit seats. Excess baggage payments can also be made there.

Lounge
The new SSR airport also operates two lounges, namely La Terrasse for departures and the Arrival Premium Lounge, in the airport terminal building. After long and tiresome journeys passengers can enjoy the calmness and beauty of these spaces, which are a perfect blend of exoticism and modernity, dedicated to their comfort. Along with special services provided to lounge users, travelling through the SSR International Airport becomes a hassle free and pleasant experience.

About Airport of Rodrigues
Sir Gaëtan Duval Airport is the only airport located in Rodrigues near Plaine Corail. It is an island dependent of Mauritius. Sir Gaetan Duval Airport became fully operational on 27 October 2003. It is named after Sir Charles Gaëtan Duval (1930-1996), a former deputy Mauritian prime minister, who oversaw much of the development of Rodrigues.Prior to being renamed in 2007, it was known as Plaine Corail Airport.Airport of Rodrigues Ltd (ARL) was incorporated on 8 February 2000 as a public company. The tourism industry is one of the driving forces for the development of the Rodriguan economy and Sir Gaetan Duval Airport being the key focal point for the visitors to Rodrigues.
